Ramona: The path to the "feel-good self"
Before you reached your desired weight with SHEKO, you weren't satisfied with your weight. Was it always like that?
"Being overweight has been an issue for me since childhood. I weighed 80 kilograms when I was just 12 years old. But nobody ever knew what was wrong. Everyone was baffled as to why the number on the scale increased year after year. My diet was actually quite normal."
At 28, Ramona suddenly fell into a diabetic coma . This happens when blood sugar levels become extremely high. Ramona was hospitalized. For the first time, she learned that she had diabetes . Although the diagnosis was a shock at first, she saw it as an opportunity to get her weight under control .
"I thought I finally had the answer to my question about what was 'wrong' with me. Sure, we adjusted my medication. At one point, I was injecting 120 units of insulin a day. I even took beta-blockers. And yet I still continued to gain weight."
And when did the actual turning point come?
"Everything changed in 2020. After surgery on my cervical spine, my health deteriorated. The doctors then conducted further tests. This is how they discovered that I have a carbohydrate intolerance. No one had recognized this before."
When we eat carbohydrates, they are ideally broken down in the intestines . Once broken down, they travel via our bloodstream to the cells, which then metabolize them. In the case of carbohydrate intolerance , this process is disrupted. Carbohydrates are not properly digested. Carbohydrates are found primarily in bread, pasta, and potatoes.
"The diagnosis opened my eyes. As a diabetic, I actually ate quite healthily. But my weight still increased. I just didn't know that the supposedly healthy whole-grain bread was a no-go for me personally ."
Ramona's dietary change: Fewer carbohydrates, more SHEKO
With this new insight, Ramona embarks on a dietary change. She strictly reduces "her" carbohydrates and switches to a ketogenic diet. This diet focuses on healthy fats and an individually appropriate amount of protein.
How did you discover SHEKO for yourself during your dietary change?
"When I knew that my diet would be extremely protein-focused, I started looking for a protein shake. My nutritionist recommended SHEKO to me after I had already tried many other brands – and unfortunately couldn't tolerate them."
Some people are quite surprised that SHEKO also fits into a keto diet. But the way I drink my shake, it only has 75 calories and 1.7 grams of carbohydrates.”
Ramona drinks her SHEKO shake with unsweetened almond milk. Her favorite flavors are vanilla and banana . She prefers to use two heaped scoops and mix the shake thoroughly with a milk frother. She also likes to combine different flavors for a unique taste experience.
