33 kilos lighter: How Jana found herself again

As a childcare worker in a daycare center, Jana hardly had time for regular meals. Weighing almost 90 kilos, with 2 children and a demanding job, she pulled the emergency brake. Today, one year later, she has lost 33 kilos and radiates energy. Here she tells us how SHEKO helped her find herself again.

Jana: "I wanted to find myself again as a person"

You started with SHEKO in January and are now almost 33 kilos lighter. What was the moment when you decided: Now something has to change?

"Actually, it was my four-year-old son who asked every day when the baby would finally come, what was in my belly. At that time, I weighed almost 90 kilos and realized: I couldn't keep up with the kids at daycare anymore. I no longer felt attractive. I wanted to find myself again as a person."

For Jana, everyday life had become a challenge. As a childcare worker with two children at home, there was hardly any time for regular meals. Often, she only ate in the evening, and then quickly and without much thought.

How did you find out about SHEKO?

"I spent a long time looking at what would be suitable for me. I had tried another provider years ago, but I didn't like it. At SHEKO, so many people on the internet said, 'This is really delicious.' So I bought all your products I could find at Rossmann. And then it was already too late: I ordered several times."

So you had experience with weight loss shakes before, but not good ones. Did you have any concerns this time?

"Actually, not at all. My goal was first and foremost to regularly consume something. I really only read positive things about you. One barrier was still a bit the price. But my husband honestly said: 'Whether you eat three meals a day and make sure everything is healthy and balanced, or you go for two shakes – the price comes out the same. Just do it now, you have nothing to lose.'

Jana started in a structured way: For the first three to four weeks, she drank a shake in the morning and at noon and ate a balanced dinner – without tracking. Gradually, she added nuts and fruit to reach her calorie intake. Then she began tracking her food.

A routine that really works

That means the shakes have helped you develop a regular eating behavior?

"Absolutely. For me, it’s like this now: at 8 a.m. I make my shake at daycare, at 1 p.m. my second shake. That’s everyday life. Most kids always come and say, 'It’s shake time now, can we shake?' On weekends I need it less because then I eat a little something with the kids. But when I’m on the go, I enjoy just having the shake in my backpack. For that, I use milk portioners where the powder is already measured and kept separately."

I walk at least 10,000 steps daily, more like double that, because I do everything on foot. I've gone from size 44/46 to XS/S. I’m swimming in my jackets and will soon really have to look in the kids' section!”

Jana talked to her doctor and chose a sustainable approach: instead of going to the gym, she integrates movement into her daily life. Being on foot every day, 30 minutes of hula hooping in the evening – things she can maintain in the long term.

That sounds like a lot of activity and structure. But what about enjoyment – do you have to give up everything now?

"No, absolutely not! I go to the restaurant, eat whatever I feel like, and still lose weight. I don't have to give up anything."

You really enjoy experimenting with the varieties! Do you also have absolute favorites?

"It varies depending on the season. Right now, I love cinnamon and marzipan, which for me are the epitome of childhood and home, since I come from northern Germany. Coconut is amazing. There really isn’t a flavor I truly dislike."

You have been with us for almost a year now and know your way around very well. Are you still tracking, or have you by now developed a sense for the calories and nutrients in different foods?

"I definitely learned a lot about it and got a feel for it, but I prefer to keep tracking my food. I like that it lets me know if I still have a few calories left in the evening for a chocolate bar. If I go a little over one day, that's totally fine. But then it's important that it doesn't happen again the next day."

You are also active in the SHEKO community. What does exchanging with others mean to you?

“It is incredibly motivating to read the stories of others or to experience it. Some started at the same time as I did. It’s exciting to go through it together.”

Jana has now convinced friends and other mothers through her enthusiasm: “I have already convinced several friends of yours, who are now using it too. Last week, another mom came to me and said she had also started using it.”

Looking ahead

You have now almost reached your target weight – what’s next?

"I am now in the 50-kilo range. I never would have dreamed of that in January. I believe SHEKO will accompany me for a long time, simply because it also provides a kind of security."

For Jana, it is clear: it is no longer about losing weight, but about long-term weight maintenance. The shakes have become a fixed part of her daily routine, which she does not want to do without.

Understand Your Body – Water Retention Is Not Real Weight Gain

"You have to be aware: We didn't gain the weight within three days. It simply takes time. It doesn't come off quickly. Sure, a lot of water weight goes away in the first few days, that was the case for me too. But you have to understand the rules of the body a bit. Suddenly, there can be four kilos more. That's due to water retention – from the period, too much salt, or other reasons. So you need to engage with it to understand what is happening in our body."

Gratitude instead of perfection – Your body accomplishes incredible things

When I think about the fact that I weighed 33 kilos more in January, I am simply grateful to my body. It has carried me this far, even before with all that weight. It has achieved the incredible. You just have to believe in yourself and keep going, even if you enjoyed a day. It’s not sinning, it’s not a mistake, it’s completely normal.”
