Monika: How important are role models for weight loss?

We met you through our SHEKO community on Facebook. In the group, you motivate others and share your successes – and they are simply fantastic. Let's start from the beginning: Where did your desire to lose weight come from?

"I have a very active job. I work in landscaping and gardening. Last year, I noticed how much harder everything was becoming. I got out of breath quickly, always needed a lot of time to recover after work, and felt that I used to be fitter. At the same time, my sister lost some weight. She then became my role model, so to speak."

So having role models is important to you?

"I think it's incredibly valuable to see how others are going their own way. It can be inspiring and motivating. Especially when you're also exchanging ideas. I find that really helpful."

Monika's feeling that exchanging experiences with others can help in pursuing one's own goals is not just her personal assessment, but is scientifically proven. A study published in the "Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology" found that people who lost weight together with friends had greater success and were subsequently better able to maintain their desired weight.

Weight management is easier in a group.

As we mentioned briefly earlier, you're also part of our Facebook community. What are your experiences in the group?

"The community was really crucial for me. I've tried to lose weight twice before – but I didn't have any support from others. When I decided to make a change again recently, I was initially unsure whether I could actually do it. But then I discovered the group and suddenly felt more motivated than ever before."

Our SHEKO community on Facebook is a group where over 8,500 members exchange ideas in a friendly and respectful manner. They share their successes, give valuable tips, motivate each other, and talk about their personal experiences. It's important to us that a genuine sense of community develops here. It's not about anyone being supposedly 'better' than others, but about celebrating our individual progress together.

You too can easily become a member here . Just send us a request and you'll soon be part of the community.

"But then I discovered Grupee and suddenly felt more motivated than ever before."

What helps you the most in the group?

"The honesty. I can openly say that I'm feeling unmotivated at the moment. Nobody holds it against me. On the contrary, I encounter a lot of understanding. We're all in the same boat. I've also started a small WhatsApp group with seven people. We check in with each other once a week and share our progress. Or we exchange recipes, or tell each other about our goals. That's truly invaluable."

Which recipe is currently your favorite?

"My boyfriend and I recently bought an air fryer. It's so wonderfully easy to cook with less fat. Right now I especially like omelets with fresh bell peppers or spring onions."

And when it comes to the shake – which one is your SHEKO favorite?

"Currently, it'shazelnut . My boyfriend loves chocolate ."

Since autumn: 20 kilos have already been lost.

What exactly does your day with SHEKO look like?

"During the week, I shake twice a day – in the morning and evening. At lunchtime, I make myself a balanced meal. Weekends are different. Then I only shake once a day. I have a huge weakness for delicious pasta. On Saturdays, I always look forward to cooking pasta. SHEKO gives me the peace of mind that I don't have to miss out on anything and can enjoy my pasta to the fullest."

Have you changed anything else in your life to lose weight more effectively?

"I've started exercising. Currently, I go to the gym four times a week. I find it much easier to lose weight when I exercise more."

Harvard Medical School has found that jogging is the most effective sport for weight loss. Cycling, skipping rope, and swimming follow. Swimming is a particularly great option if you're overweight to begin with. It's easier on the joints and a lot of fun.

We're so happy that you have such a great SHEKO success story. What particularly impressed you about the shakes?

"Sure, the taste. But also the price. I've already started two diets – but they were much more expensive. One can of yours lasts me a long time. And that's even though I portion it by feel. And if a portion only costs me €1.40, that's still much cheaper than cooking a whole meal."

Losing weight with SHEKO: Monika's tips

1
Just get started

Are you waiting for the right moment and putting off finally starting your weight management program? Don't wait any longer, get started right away. "There's always that initial hurdle. But once you've lost the first few pounds, you're all the more motivated. And then it almost happens by itself."

2
Join a group

Whether it's our Facebook community, a chat with friends, or lively discussions within the family – it helps to have a group that pursues a similar goal. "The important thing is to remain honest. Share if you've had a bad day. Don't be ashamed if your weight plateaus. You'll see: others are going through the same thing. And they can be a great help." Join a group

3
Find small, fun challenges

In the SHEKO community, we occasionally organize challenges. These might involve things like walking 10,000 steps a day or drinking enough water. "That's always an extra motivation for me."
